I scouted all over the area for a workable location to set up and work, and in the end my favorite spot was my own campsite just north of the monument, with this sprawling cactus.
I took advantage of the cooler weather in early March to finally explore Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and some of the surrounding areas. It was a beautiful time to be down along the border with Mexico. I got caught in a heavy rain that turned parts of the normally parched Camino del Diablo into a lake, and I’m pretty sure I woke up to snow on the tops of some distant mountains.
Chollas, organ pipe cactus, and ocotillos, some of my favorite desert plants!
A toast: to The Desert! (It’s actually a fresh batch of tintype developer.)Stopped at the Saturday arts market in Ajo, picked up a painting of an agave and this yummy jar of cobbler, complete with a little cup of ice cream!

Really had a great short but productive trip. The Sonoran Desert is just such a beautiful, colorful, fascinating place to explore!
I wanted to get back to my truck and back to work, but I was briefly detained in Ocotillo Jail.
